How effective is kick boxing as a base for mma?

Hey guys, i’m thinking about taking up Kickboxing and will look to go into competition eventually, i was just wondering how effective it is in an mma style fight? Im aware that MMA fighters have more than one style in their arsenal such as bjj for ground fighting, but how effective is kickboxing for a stking discipline?

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance

its a great base but if you can find a person who can teach you muai thai which would change the amount of places you could effectivly strike with from 2(your feet) to 8 (feet, knees, fists, elbows)

Its effective, It teaches how to kick and punch while defending it. Many great MMA fighters have been pro kickboxers such as Chuck Liddel and Cro Cop. Its generally considered either the best type of stand-up or the second best begind Muay Tai

Kickboxing is probably the best base for MMA second only to BJJ.

As a striking base, it’s very good.

People would argue that muay thai is better for a standing base, but technically muay thai is a form of kickboxing.

its effective because everyone gets into those punches exchange and often forget to use their legs to defend. its very basic the low of the mma fighting styles but often proven to be effective, once you master kickboxing try moving up to something a little more demanding and best of luck to you man!

yes it is a good start
‘Kickboxing’ is a generic word, what type of kickboxing are you doing?

    American kickboxing-marketed like boxing,fighting in a ring,etc.
Sport Karate-karate used in tournaments with varying degrees of contact
    Savate-French kickboxing,using strong kicks,mid-low height
San Shou-Kung Fu style kickboxing that also incorporates throws and grapples
Muay Thai-Thai kickboxing that incorporates knees and elbows.

All of them are good; Muay Thai’s offence and conditioning is the best since your shins and arms get conditioned and can be made to break bones upon contact,American kickboxing has superior movement and speed compared to Muay Thai but less power, San Shou (my favourite) is like karate/kung fu fighting but it lets you set up a throw or takedown once close enough
